Our Dear Friend Jeffery

A creature is born again
Emerges from the dark
Hiding in crevices
Skulking in corners
Sharp claws for fingers
No mouth
Completely blackly stark

It digs into the grey matter
Holds on for dear life
Breathing in the misery
Eyes rolled back
Leaving only white

How it loves to hate you
How it loves to overstay
How it loves to need you
How it loathes to be away

Kill it again slowly
Squash it
After nurturing so long
It will be born again shortly
The only harmony for your song

The dissonant hums
Right into the folds of your brain
Comforting and horrible
Somehow it's lonely when they fade

How you love to hate it
How you hate to let it linger
How you hate to need it
How you adore your wretched singer

Its fingers like talons
No mouth on its face
Skin dark and empty
Like a starless night
Right at home and in its place

Caressing your mind
Holding on
Breathing in
If you can't see it in the dark

It will be born again
